showing up for community action
August 25, 2025

Two weeks ago, our team had the privilege of capturing the grand opening of Central Kentucky Community Action’s new home in Elizabethtown. This move matters... and not just because the building is bigger, but because it consolidates essential services families rely on: housing and utility support, food assistance, employment pathways, youth enrichment, and health resources.

With the upstairs dedicated to Head Start, 64 preschoolers will now learn and grow in a state-of-the-art facility designed to remove barriers and set them on a strong path.

When Community Action thrives, schools thrive too. Families with stable housing, food security, and childcare are better positioned to support student success.

the bigger picture for education

Research consistently shows the connection between strong wraparound services and educational outcomes:

  • children in stable housing are more likely to attend school consistently.
  • access to early learning programs like head start improves kindergarten readiness.
  • family food security is linked to improved classroom behavior and performance.

Community Action’s presence in Elizabethtown creates a hub where these needs are met in one place and removes logistical and emotional burdens that too often fall on school staff to solve informally.

how this connects to our values

For us, documenting the day wasn’t about the photos alone. It was about living our values:

  • Servant Leadership — showing up humbly to support, not to spotlight ourselves.
  • Bountiful Harvesting — sharing our creative skills so stories like this can be told well.
  • Reliable Overseeing — honoring the work of community partners who carry so much responsibility.
  • Vision Planting — believing in futures where families and schools are equipped to thrive together.

This is what we mean by abundance: giving freely of our time and talents so communities have what they need to grow.

looking ahead

As teachers-turned-communicators, we know moments like this ripple out. A building becomes a hub. A hub strengthens families. Strong families strengthen schools.

We’re grateful for the chance to play a small part in celebrating this milestone.
