Bullitt County Public Schools, Crossroads Elementary
from vision to daily celebration
Crossroads Elementary, part of Bullitt County Public Schools, wanted to make the district’s Graduate Profile more than a document on the wall. The school’s leadership sought to embed the competencies into daily culture so students could understand, see, and celebrate them while staying fully aligned with the district vision. Alchemy Collaborative partnered with Crossroads to adapt the Graduate Profile into inclusive, developmentally appropriate language, create a branded visual identity, and design a recognition system that connects classroom learning to the community’s accountability story.
the challenge
Crossroads Elementary’s leadership believed in the power of the BCPS Graduate Profile but needed a way to make it accessible and actionable for their youngest learners, while building visibility and engagement across the school community. Three core challenges shaped the work:

making complex language accessible to all students
The original Graduate Profile was crafted for a broad audience, including educators, parents, and policymakers, and scored at an average grade 10–11 reading level. Younger students struggled to connect with the abstract, multi-step language, making it harder to see themselves in the competencies.

building a shared visual identity
Without a consistent visual presence, the Graduate Profile was rarely referenced outside of formal settings. The school needed a way to keep the competencies visible in hallways, classrooms, and online while also tying them into the school’s own branding so students could claim them as part of their identity.
connecting daily practice to local accountability
The Graduate Profile outlined the district’s promise, but families needed to see it lived out. Crossroads wanted to show the competencies in action and to create trust by linking everyday recognition of skills to the broader local accountability story.
the alchemy collaborative approach
readability and inclusivity review
We reviewed each competency for reading level and clarity, identifying terms and sentence structures that could be simplified without losing meaning. Each was rephrased to be developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and actionable for all learners.
visual identity design
We created a set of bold, Crossroads-branded icons for each competency, incorporating school colors and consistent design elements so students could instantly recognize and recall them.
recognition system creation
We built a streamlined nomination and celebration process, including an online form for staff, custom certificates, a sticker progression system, and ready-to-use social media templates for public recognition.
integration into daily culture
We embedded the competencies into school routines (from morning announcements and bulletin boards to event signage) ensuring students, staff, and families encountered the Graduate Profile language regularly.
the result

With the new language, visuals, and recognition system in place, the Graduate Profile has become a visible and celebrated part of Crossroads’ culture. Students now use the competencies’ accessible language in daily conversations, staff actively nominate peers and students for recognition, and families see consistent updates through school and district channels. This visibility not only strengthens school pride but also reinforces the community trust essential for local accountability.

Now our students don’t just see the Graduate Profile... they understand it, talk about it, and live it. Every celebration is a reminder that the district’s vision belongs to them, too.
